DC-KJV and JE-D&C 9
Annotation of D&C 9 – preliminary
D&C 9 is a good example because it shows that a high percentage of Joseph Smith’s language is also KJV language. Few of the KJV words/phrases are not also found in Edwards, including the so-called "blended" passages.
The blue D&C words/phrases in the annotation are nonbiblical and also not found in Edwards. In some cases noted below, the nonbiblical language is close to Edwards (e.g., plural instead of singular). There are several examples in the Book of Mormon and D&C of paraphrased or misquoted passages from the KJV that are identical to paraphrased or misquoted KJV passages in Edwards' works.
The red words/phrases are nonbiblical D&C wording that are also found in Edwards' works.
Purple are nonbiblical D&C words/phrases similar to Edwards.
Naturally, Edwards is not the only person who ever used this nonbiblical Book of Mormon terminology. English is a common language or we couldn't understand one another. But the ready availability of Edwards' works in Palmyra during Joseph's youth indicates that Edwards was a possible source for Joseph's vocabulary that he used when translating the plates and receiving revelations.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet to Oliver Cowdery, at Harmony, Pennsylvania, April 1829. Oliver is admonished to be patient and is urged to be content to write, for the time being, at the dictation of the translator, rather than to attempt to translate.
1–6, Other ancient records are yet to be translated;
7–14, The Book of Mormon is translated by study and by spiritual confirmation.
1 Behold, I say unto you, my son, that because you did not translate[1] according to that which[2] you desired of me, and did commence again to write for my servant, Joseph Smith, Jun., even so I would that[3] ye should continue[4] until you have finished this record, which I have entrusted[5] unto him.
2 And then, behold, other records[6] have I, that I will give unto you power that you may assist[7] to translate.
3 Be patient, my son, for it is wisdom in[8] me, and it is not expedient[9] that you should translate at this present time[10].
4 Behold, the work which you are called to do[11] is to write for my servant Joseph.
5 And, behold, it is because that[12] you did not continue[13] as you commenced, when you began to translate, that I have taken away this privilege[14] from you.
6 Do not murmur, my son, for it is wisdom in me[15] that I have dealt with you after this manner[16].
7 Behold, you have not understood; you have supposed[17] that I would give it unto you, when you took no thought[18] save it was[19] to ask me.
8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it[20] out[21] in your mind[22]; then you must ask[23] me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn[24] within you; therefore, you shall feel that it[25] is right.
9 But if it be not right[26] you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor[27] of thought that shall cause you to[28] forget the thing which is wrong[29]; therefore, you cannot write that which is sacred save it be given you from me.
10 Now, if you had known this you could have translated; nevertheless, it is not expedient[30] that you should translate now.
11 Behold, it was expedient[31] when you commenced; but you feared[32], and the time is past[33], and it is not expedient now;
12 For, do you not behold that I have given unto my servant Joseph sufficient strength[34], whereby it is[35] made up[36]? And neither of you[37] have I condemned.
13 Do this thing [38] which I have commanded you, and you shall prosper[39]. Be faithful, and yield to no temptation[40].
14 Stand fast[41] in the work wherewith I have called you, and a hair of your head[42] shall not be lost, and you shall be lifted up at the last day[43]. Amen.
